prim bonnet
I decided to try something a little different for this stump doll. I made a bonnet which had a flap at the front, but it didn't work for this doll, as it covered her eyes ! so this bonnet was successful ! I have used two different mustard fabrics - hat & skirt - wrap over bodice. This picture doesn't really show the arms but it will have to do as l am not taking another - because -this was taken in extreme heat - plus l was standing in the middle of a bindy eye patch - which all stuck to the sole of my sandals !! and l was lucky enough not to see any snakes enroute to the dam!

buttons & prim
Another bust just completed today! l have used a pretty fabric which features tiny pink flowers and is tied around the bust & secured. Several buttons were added around the hairline seam along with some scraps of dusty pink fabric to soften the look. I've used a gorgeous brown linen thread to hand sew the face and just a touch of pencil to the cheeks to complete the doll. A rusty pin was added for extra charm. Going to pop this one onto the website soon.

dusty pink prim
This is the second bust l have painted & sanded and l am really liking this technique ! who would have thought!! I tied some frayed dusty pink fabric around the neck and secured it with an old button. The hair consists of 6 strands of thick black wool, which is twisted at the top . I am currently working on another which will be entirely different to the previous two.

small stump doll
I could start by saying how l dislike the heat !!!! ( 35C-43C) most days - ok l will - and to top it off yesterdays extremely strong winds & dust storm made the weeks high temperature & humidity all that more memorable!!! On a brighter note - l have been hiding away with curtains drawn & air conditioner on - and producing some dolls & cats !! This photo shows my first attempt at a stump doll - not really sure whether they were meant to have legs? The paint dried extremely quickly in this heat ! so the sanding & sewing was completed within a day :-)) Maybe l will make some more ? Sandra :-))

finished.
Just couldn't resist - here is the finished version.
I found some old tea dyed fabric to make the ties to add a rusty bell to each Cat - its very open weave and l haven't seen it in the shops for ages ! As l enjoyed making these Cats - l think l will be making a few more :-)) even different shapes , fat & skinny ones, bigger heads, long ears, etc, it will be fun to just play around with the idea. They are now for sale on my website. Sandra :-))
prim cats
These two prim cats are a recent creation. I am still fiddling :-)) l think one needs a bell around the neck - or a tag or something. One is also missing whiskers :-)) that's easily fixed ! I am starting to enjoy the creating side of anything that pops into my head. The painting and sanding is great fun - its relaxing -instead of sewing very neat stitches,etc.etc. I will also popping these up on my website probably over the weekend with their minor adjustments. prim doll 5
I am sitting here with the door open and a lovely south breeze is filling the room. What a relief from the draining heat!! alas it is short lived - as they are forecasting an entire week of 34C -37C to follow !! Here is a prim doll bust which has been painted & sanded. The hair is made from black embroidery thread. An old stained frayed doiley was added along with a safety pin & rusty bells. I will be adding this to my website soon ! Sandra :-))

2nd applique
This is another "chook shed" pattern, which was very popular many years ago. I used mustard & red borders and cute laser cut buttons to secure the tabs. The chicken is hand appliqued and the words are backstitched. I will be taking more clear photos before placing this on my website, as the grass makes this appear wonky :-)) but you are looking at the true colours ! Well l think summer has arrived ! we are experiencing 36C temps and climbing! at least we don't have the humidity that relations in QLD experience!!! Due to the fact that we have very little irrigation water this year and our farm is basically dry - the snake population may have decreased? only spotted 2 browns so far around the house yard/garden area, oh! the joys of living on a farm. welcome garden
I need to take some new pics of these wall hangings, because the day l tried, was very windy & this grass doesn't make them appear straight. This wall hanging was free hand drawn then embroidered with back stitch, lazy daisy stitch & french knots. I've added a laser cut butterfly to the borders which really gives it that garden touch. These two colours have become one of my favourite combinations to work with , the green has a tiny pink spot/fleck which matches the pink heart fabric. More tomorrow :-)) I am also working on some mammy wall hangings ! Sandra:-))

single sunflower
Hi everyone, I have been trying all week to add a pic and submit an entry into blogger ! So obviously it must have been busy over the new year period !! This pic is of a simple wall hanging - l am not sure where l found the outline for the shapes ? its all hand sewn with blanket stitch . I am currently working on more wall hangings and adding a few to my website next week. Snippet:- as some of you might be aware we are dairy farmers ! well this year is looking awful - we are going to receive a very low price for our milk !! So l am going to work harder and offer more items on my website . Sandra :-))
